Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
